Literary Junkies v2

It's a good day to be a bookworm! Not only is the monthly Literary Junkies link-up today, but the Blogger Book Club I joined up with last month, had their monthly link up yesterday! Phew!

Here are my literary Q&A's for the day:

By the Porchlight

1. What are you currently reading? Tell us about it.

I'm actually in between books right now because I just can't find anything that piques my interest enough to prolong going to bed at night. Two jobs will do that to a person...

2. If you could choose any author in the world to write a story based on your life, who would you choose to be the author? Why?

The first person to come to mind is Donald Miller. His voice is just so approachable and easy to read.

3. Tell us about your favorite place to read.

Boring, but my bed. I like to curl up in my blankets and escape the distractions of the mess in the kitchen or the football game that's usually blaring on our TV.

4. What books would you buy for lovers of a) suspense/mystery, b) chicklit, c) comedy, d) literary fiction, e) nonfiction, f) classics, g)biography? (You can choose how many of those subcategories you want to talk about.)

1. Suspense/mystery- A Walk Across the Sun by Corban Addison
Everyone who likes any genre at all should read this book, seriously. But as it falls under the category of suspense, so I'll put it here.

2. Chicklit- Anything by Jane Green or Emily Giffin
My personal favorites are Second Chance and Baby Proof, respectively.

Second Chance

3. Classics- To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
One of those books that everyone should read twice. Once in high school when your English teacher mandates it, and secondly, when you're older and can appreciate everything it has to teach.

4. Literary fiction- The History of Love by Nicole Krauss
This books looks so unassuming that you never see it coming when the author rocks your world with a huge reveal at the end that will leave you in tears. Phenomenal writing.

The History of Love

5. Nonfiction- Several by some good Christian authors
Please don't runaway just because I used the word 'Christian.' I don't like Christian books, either, but these particiular ones are exceptions:

Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger by Ron Sider
The Irresistible Revolution by Shane Claiborne
Captivating by Stasi Eldredge
Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller

These people display what Christians should look like and are such powerful and convicting writers.

My Favorite Book-Turned-Movie

There are a couple cliches that I could mention: The Hunger Games, Water for Elephants, Harry Potter. But in keeping with the season, my winner is...

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Let's face it- Dr. Seuss is a genius. I can't think of a single book he's written that could be described as anything short of spectacular. So if the rule that if a book rocks your world, the movie will suck is true, it's safe to assume the movies would be terrible. Except both the cartoon and recent Jim Carrey portrayal are amazing, too!
