Premature Excitement

I have never been a fan of Saint Valentine. He epitomizes our consumerist culture and makes people feel sad and lonely. However, the fact that this is the first year I've been in love on Valentine's Day changes things.

Chuck and I have always been fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants type people. Plans are rarely made because at least one of us always changes our minds at the last minute. Plus, I just don't think romance should be orchestrated- you can't plan romance, so be spontaneous!

This year, however, we figured out the best Valentine's Day date night ever. For those of you whose curiosity and compulsion mandates that you know exactly what we'll be doing, you can see [here]. For those of you who are lazy like me and want the abbreviated version, here it is:

Location. Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium.
Dinner. Toasted Blue Crab Ravioli, Goat Cheese stuffed Strawberries and Asparagus & Lemon Risotto (among a bunch of other mouth-watering options).
Open Bar. Is there really any elaboration needed here?
Entertainment. A meet-and-greet with small animals. A special water animals event. A presentation on animal mating rituals.

Jealous?! The whole event was a little more than we had anticipated spending on Valentine's Day, but we both agreed that not eating out at all for the month of February was a minor price to pay for the best date ever. Stay tuned for what I hope will be some fantastic pictures!

  1. Aww that sounds awesome!!! Although I think our Valentines Day featuring Napoleon Dynamite and lots of Domino's was pretty sweet too!! :)

  2. That seriously sounds like the best valentines day ever!!! I hope you post about it after :)

  3. I'm so jealous! Especially since my Valentine's Day will be filled with nothingness....*hint hint hubby*

  4. That DOES sound like a fantastic date! I'm definitely jealous. Can't wait to hear about it.

We also don't do V-day, for the reasons you mentioned and because many, many years ago MacGyver made the biggest mistake of his life by getting married very young to someone who had no idea what "monogamy" or "keep it in your pants" meant. Luckily, our "Miniversary," or dating anniversary is 17 Feb, so we still have a reason to take advantage of the season.
